Civil War Artifacts

One of our MS parents collects Civil War artifacts and was kind enough to bring them in to share with the Explorers. We saw guns, swords, bullets, Confederate bonds and newspapers, and an awesome camera that may have taken a picture of General Lee! Thanks Mr. Fox!

More Art!!

What artist are the Explorers learning about this time? Hmmm...wood, saws, nails...could it be American sculptor Louise Nevelson, famous for her wood assemblage?

Microbe World!

The Explorers have begun the study of microbes with looking at various examples in their environment such as moss, fungi, and lichen. The microscopes are very popular and everyone knows how to prepare slides correctly.

The Explorers have also begun growing microbes, on bread and on cultures. They're looking forward to what grows over spring break so they can look at it under the microscopes. More cultures to come!

Spring Has Sprung!

When it's sunny and 62 degrees what's an Explorer to do but gardening? The Explorers were joined by the Sharks who are studying plants and had a great time digging and discovering while the Explorers were good mentors, as always. Want to guess the next time we get to work in the garden?

Science Fair

The Science Fair was a full house with all of the Explorer parents and parents and friends from the other Seabury classes in attendance. The Explorers investigated subjects including static electricity, acidity, skin wrinkling, and the strength of silk thread. The projects were awesome and the Explorers displayed their understanding of the Scientific Method!

Read Across America

To celebrate Dr. Seuss's 107 birthday the Explorers joined their Superstar buddies for a breakfast of Green Eggs and Ham and buddy reading. They then sponsored the 2nd Annual Seuss Trivia Contest. The whole school got together to test their Seuss knowledge and the Beacons won with the Explorers grabbing second place!
