Natural Selection

The Barracudas spent hours absorbed in conducting an experiment about natural selection with the mythical Carmel Origami Birds. They tested successive generations of their paper birds as each generation of offspring mutated from the original ancestral bird in wing size. They used math to measure flight distance and wing size, find averages and graph the results of their experiment. Surprisingly one mutation, a very small front wing, resulted in the most successful bird in length of flight.

Big Brothers and Sisters

The Barracudas had a visit from the Navigators and acted as mentors. Together they talked about what makes a good friend and expressed it in a friendship flower. It's pretty cool to be the oldest kids in the school and have the younger ones look up to you.

Loving that Smart Board!

The Barracudas are using their Smart Board for math, interactive web sites in science, language arts and social studies as well as watching videos. Thanks to all you kind folks that contributed to the fund raiser at last years auction!

Our favorite 4 year olds!

Getting ready for Curriculum Night the Barracudas cleaned their desks in the time honored elementary manner--shaving cream! And instantly turned into 4 year olds.

Fossils

After talking about how fossils form the Barracudas made their own by putting shells in a mixture of plaster and sand. Then the real fun began as they got to be paleontologists and excavate the "fossils" that had formed.

Go West Young Man!

The Barracudas are using all their research, math, writing, computer and map skills to plan a trip to the "Wild West" circa 1850. After reading the advice of a guide from that era they began to plan a route and supplies--including food, clothing, and animals--then put it all together in a presentation.

As always, Lilica and Ginger were a great help!

So many blackberries, what's a Barracuda to do? First we picked, then we made jam and now a beautiful blackberry pie. Can't wait to cut it!
